— Our Story

What drives
WakuWaku.

01 — Origin

How we began

WakuWaku Africa Tour was founded by a Japanese traveller who fell in love with Tanzania’s wild landscapes. Africa — and Tanzania in particular — is a place many people dream of visiting “one day”, yet hold back from because of scarce information, language barriers or worries about safety.

We started WakuWaku Africa Tour to remove those barriers: to offer trips that feel safe and easy to plan, while still delivering genuine experiences on the ground.

“Waku waku” — the Japanese word for that flutter of excitement when you plan a trip, the buzz on the night before you leave. We hope that feeling stays with you in Africa, after you return home, and becomes one of the memories that matter in your life.

02 — Mission

Make the first step to Africa
more within reach,
and more exciting.

We lower the barriers to travelling to Africa, so that anyone can experience its wonder.

03 — Vision

Our vision

That every traveller moved by Africa goes home and shares its magic, becoming a bridge that deepens the ties between people and cultures. And, through our contribution to local communities, to make sustainable ecotourism a reality.

04 — Values

What we care about

01

Honesty

We are straight with you, and transparent about prices, risks and what each experience involves.

02

Safety first

Your safety comes first in every situation. We take risk management and emergency response seriously.

03

Real experiences

Not surface-level tourism, but genuine encounters with Tanzania's culture and nature.

04

Giving back

Tourism that grows together with local guides and communities. Part of our revenue goes back to local education and conservation.

05 — Our Love

Africa is our
second home.

For us Africa is not a “distant continent” but another home. Standing on Tanzanian soil and looking out over savannah that runs to the horizon, people somehow feel as if they have returned to where they began.

The roar of a lion, the majesty of Kilimanjaro, a Zanzibar sunset and the smiles of the people you meet. No photo or video can capture them — you have to stand there to feel them. WakuWaku wants to create those moments together with you.
