— FAQ

Frequently asked
questions

Q.When is the best time for a safari?

The dry season (June–October) is ideal. The grass is short, so animals are easier to see, and the wildebeest cross the Mara River in July–September. In the short dry season (January–March) you can see the calving season in the southern Serengeti. The rainy months (April–May and November) are green and quiet, but road conditions need care.

Q.Will I see all of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo)?

In the Ngorongoro Conservation Area you have a good chance of seeing all five in a single day, and in the Serengeti lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are almost certain. Black rhino are few in number, so Ngorongoro is the most reliable place to see them.

Q.How many people fit in a safari vehicle?

We use 4WD Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs, seating up to six guests plus the guide. Private tours give you more space with fewer people, and we arrange seating so everyone gets good window and roof views for photography.

Q.What kind of accommodation will we stay in?

We arrange anything from mid-range lodges (en-suite tents with hot showers and electricity) to luxury camps and five-star lodges, depending on your budget. Standard plans are mid-range, and upgrades are available.

Q.What does a typical day look like?

Wake at 6:00 for coffee and set off on a morning game drive at 6:30, when animals are most active. Back to the lodge around 10:00 for breakfast. After lunch, an evening game drive from 15:30, with dinner at 19:00. Some days you stay out all day with a picnic lunch.

Q.I'm worried about altitude sickness and malaria.

Safari areas sit at a relatively low 1,500–2,300 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely. The malaria risk can be greatly reduced with preventive medication and insect repellent. We recommend visiting a travel clinic before you go.
